Living on the Windward side of Oahu, whether jogging Kailua Beach or paddling Outrigger Canoe in the crystal clear waters of the bay, I am always struck by the statuesque beauty of these islands. Floating like jewels out on the horizon, they each have a personality of their own. Its a joy to paddle out and surf the waves between them or land and possibly encounter a honu or monk seal taking a nap on the peaceful shore.
The Puakenikeni represent a tree in our front yard. From spring through summer the flowers start out bright pale yellow, getting richer as each bloom matures. We make leis for our loved ones from these pretty golden trumpets. The lovely scent caressing our friends and family long after we have left their home.
